This is a request for the remaining members of a canon family on the rl board Left Me Speechless. Information directly from the canon family info is as follows:
the hampton brothers band were a popular band of 60’s and 70’s headed by new orleans-natives and, as the band name suggests, brothers joshua and jerry hampton. the hampton brothers were known for bending genres to their will, easily swinging between jazz, soul, blues, and gospel with a passion. on the way to new york to play a show, the brothers stopped in avalon. joshua, the older of the two, met a woman and fell in love. eventually, he decided to call avalon home rather than continue traveling with his band. jerry, angry with his brother for choosing settling down over their music career, continued touring without him and the two brothers didn’t speak for 15 years.
Joshua here and his sister and brother Hampton 2 and Hampton 3 are the children of Joshua and Sandra, the daughter of the local Baptist preacher. They met at a diner one Sunday afternoon while stopped in Avalon for a day. Despite her father’s warnings against the musician and his “sinful” lifestyle, the young cook found that she wasn’t immune to Joshua’s advances. Though he continued on the road for a year, he wrote often and the next time he and his band came through Avalon, the two married and Joshua opened up the Jazz Kitchen – a soul food restaurant and jazz club where the two continue to make beautiful music and delicious dishes together to this day.
Hampton 4 and Hampton 5 are the children of Joshua Sr.’s brother Jerry and his wife Tamar. Once his brother left the band to become a family man, Jerry didn’t speak to him and though Joshua was replaced and the band continued to enjoy moderate success, it didn’t live up to its earlier hype and eventually disbanded. When Jerry returned to Avalon 15 years after he and his brother had parted ways, he had his much younger wife and a baby daughter in tow. The brothers made up and Jerry continued touring with a new group. A fight broke out at a club where Jerry and his bandmates were playing in Chicago and Jerry was shot and killed, leaving his pregnant wife widowed and alone to raise their daughters.
